Olivet Chapel, Pineville (2006) (Gifted)

The Olivet Chapel is one of the rare antebellum sturctures in Central Louisiana. Both Alexandria and Pineville were burned to the ground by retreating Union forces under General Banks. The "accidental" fire destroyed nearly everthing except the Kent House and the Olivet Chapel (being used as a stable for Union horses). This lovely complex will now be restored after receiving a donation from an anonymous local citizen.

Wonderful work

Hello David! This is a lovely painting of great historical significance. Love the way you've painted the giant fir tree throwing its deep shadow across the lawns. Contrasts nicely with the blinding glare of sunlight splashed across the tombs and the path. The chapel stands there silently, steeped in ancient memories, waiting patiently for its 'heart transplant'. Great artwork!
