Morihei Ueshiba

Morihei Ueshiba, 1883-1969. A pencil portrait I did some years ago which I gave to my Dad as a gift for his dojo. "Ueshiba sensei's legacy is remembered as a master of the martial arts whose studies transcended technical matters to include a moral and philosophical view of the world based around harmony in the face of aggression. The many branches of Aikido in existence today virtually all trace their lineage back to him."- source quote adapted from Wikipedia

This is a brilliant portrait and the world need men like master seeking to bring harmony to our damaged planet. Your technical skills are extraordinary and like with your dog (sorry about naming her Sergio), you have a gift for portraits. This is an elegant testament to a wonderful soul and you do him justice with your exceptional talent and exposing us to the great wisdom of Eastern thought that hopefully will be utilized to show that peace and the lack of agression in the USA can benefit from brilliant masters like Ueshiba. Thank you for introducing me to this brilliant man whose soulful eyes show a peaceful and very wise philosopher.

Wonderful balance of light and dark, which any followers of eastern philosophy, I'm sure, would appreciate. Now, bow to your Sensei. BOW TO YOUR SENSEI! (Sorry, I just had to throw in a little Napoleon Dynamite there!)

wonderful portrait work

david porfirio 18 Dec 2006

you know what teresa lol kathy-san , this one seems a bit more urgent than the other one. there is more intensity and the cross hatching in the background is a great effect. this image has an intensity to it that is really urgent and dynamic. the detail is top notch as usual , this piece is not as exact as the watercolor but is really close but the sense of urgency in the detailing and the intensity in his face compensate rather nicely. this is a really cool image and great style as well kathy-san
