Killdeer...named from the call they make.
Also, they have a cool behavior where they
feign being injured to draw predators away
from a nesting area or young nearby.
Artist Reply: Thanks! I saw the defensive behavior that day, and it was remarkable! Thanks for your kind words.
Artist Reply: Thanks Warren, You should of saw me standing on Bogies leash (a huge basset) there at the waters edge weaving like a drunkard back and forth switching between the view finder and screen, pushing the shutter button like a game show contestant that had missed his turn, then kinda cursing upon the review or a bad shot, I didn't look too professional then!
Artist Reply: Hi Annette! I would like to say I shot this one masterful shot, but alas its one of maybe 30 that I shot that day desperately hoping that all the killdeers wouldn't fly away! Thanks for the kind words!
Awesome capture and composition. Love the reflections.
Artist Reply: I too like reflections once doing an entire portfolio study on them (a kind of surrealist thing). But I can not take credit for these they come with the killdeers...thanks for the comment! ; }>
I'm impressed, those birds bob and weave and scurry, that it is almost impossible to capture one let alone two of em!! The Image is Fantastic Greg!! They are Killdeers, named for the call they make.
Artist Reply: Thanks Pamela, with the camera that I have and the shutter delay I just point and start pushing the button. You are correct, those killdeers are a bit of a difficult capture Thank you for solving two mystery's for me one..the name two the call they make that is strange and lovely. Now..next; the even faster apparently jet powered king fisher...
