Artist Reply: Thank you! They really are one of the most under-rated/appreciated birds out there as far as their coloring. Most people that think of Cedar Waxwings thing of drab tan-gray colored birds when in fact they are really peach dry-brushed in tan-gray on the top with highlights of yellow dry-brushing, and brilliant yellow on the whole mid-chest down with very little tinting it down at all. The markings are so crisp and clean that you would swear someone painted them on instead of them being individual feather pieces. And they have a wonderful intensity about them.

I was so enthralled watching this flock of around 200 birds taking genial turns at 20 at a time feeding on the crab apple trees while the nearby still bare of leaves Maple trees looked covered in a veritable fall festival of color from the sun glinting off the peaches, tans, brightly warm yellows, startling black and white of the remaining birds patiently waiting their turns.
