9 x 12 graphite pencil on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. My friend and artist Kate Zambrano applied skull makeup to her face for the Halloween season. I thought her look was absolutely fabulous, I just had to draw her.
I drew my line drawing using a Pentel GraphGear 0.5mm mechanical pencil with a 2B lead. I erase a lot so I like to first draw on plain old printer paper. I use my line drawing as a map, I map out where I want the features of the face as well as where I want light and shadow. Once I have my line drawing done, I then transfer it my actual drawing paper using a light box. Now I can begin to bring my friend to life on paper.
