If you ever make it to Eureka Springs, AR, make sure to search for these carvings that sit just above many sidewalks. I was drawn to them, all with different expressions. This one seemed so forlorn, forced for all eternity to avert his gaze and see only the feet of passersby. He has been there for more than a century, forgotten, broken, and lost in his own silence. I wanted to smooth his furrowed brow by keeping him in my memory. Maybe when I have the chance to return, his expression won't be so glum...
