This photo even makes me shiver...:) In the last photo I posted I mentioned that there were two hiking choices to make at a certain stretch of Hwy 410. The first was Skookum Flats trail...relatively easy, along the White River, very beautiful forest and lovely falls. The second choice is the Palisades Trail...strenuous(lots of switchbacks), follows a ravine between 2 steep rock faces, a few fantastic old growth trees, log stairway, and, at 3+ mi., a breath-taking view of the White River valley below. Come with us on this second choice, one of our favorites, even though it can be a little tricky in the winter. I'll try to share this hike in two ways...with and without snow. Either way is gorgeous scenery. These shots were taken in Jan. 2005. This waterfall joins the Dalles Creek...don't know what came first, the ravine or the creek. What is cool about this place in the winter is that, like a river flows under ice, so does the falls. When we looked closer we saw movement under all the ice. It's an amazing and mesmerizing site!!! Enjoy the adventure!! Thanks for coming!! :)
