Cléopâtre-Diane de Mérode (1875–1966) was born in Paris, France. She was the most famous woman in the world. Everyone knew her face. Millions scanned the newspapers for tidbits of information about her. Millions more purchased postcards, playing cards, and other items bearing her likeness. She was featured in print advertisements and on posters everywhere: the great beauty of the Belle Époque. Oil painting from a black/white photo on wood panel, the colors are my own imagination.

Title: "A Gift for Claire".

Starz's Outlander series stars my favorite actor, Sam Heughan, as lead male character, Highland Scot Jamie Fraser. He's about to take up arms against the the British in the 1775 American Revolution. This time-traveler/historical romance series starts the second half of season 7 next month (March 6, 2024?). We Droughtlanders have suffered long enough without the best (IMHO) underrated series streaming! These remarkable characters are all the invention of author Diana Gabaldon, who has written nine great books so far.

So here's my portrait of Sam as Jamie, started in graphite, then colored wax pencil, then shifted to GIMP 's art app. and its colored pencil. I had to shift to to finish up when my point 'n' shoot Nikon's flash kept putting "burn-out sparkles" on the heaviest applications of wax pencil. Being a non-pro photog has its disadvantages. Hope you like it!

My dad's favorite actor in his younger days. I became a fan later on and started viewing his many movies from the spaghetti westerns to the present wherever they were streaming. I did this in pen and ink with assorted points on a grungy buff paper for fun a few years ago.
