This is Jim Dunham. Jim is one of the oldest
members
and one of the first to join S.A.S.S. He tells me
he has
been a member for over twenty years. For
those
of you
who haven't seen the last two paintings of the
S.A.S.S.
members, the "Single Action Shooting Society"
is an
international organization created to preserve
and
promote the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting.
S.A.S.S.
members share a common interest in
preserving
the
history of the Old West and competitive
shooting.
Jim is the "Director of Special Projects" at the
Booth
Western Art Museum, in Cartersville, GA. He
refers to
himself as "Kid Rio," the name on his S.A.S.S.
badge. I
had the privilege of meeting him when Leigh
and
I went
there in October 2005 to take my two pieces of art
for the
permanent collection at the Booth. There is
something
that is quite special about Jim. He is an artist
himself.
Along with another guy who reads stories of
the
old
west, Jim portrays "Charles Russell," the
famous
western artist. While the reading is going on,
Jim
draws these great rough sketches that Charles
Russell
was so famous for. I am looking forward to
seeing one
of Jim's performances personally!
This piece is a traditional oil, on a "Claybord,"
Gesso-
covered Masonite.
The overall size is 16" x 20".
