Pilgrims

© 2006 Armando Salas. "Pilgrims". August 2006. Colored pencils. 87 X 70 cm. My second work with this technique; a very tiring work :-((( -------Pilgrims, since the Middle Age, walked more than 1.000 Km, from France and other European countries to Santiago de Compostela. Their trip, across the North of Spain. Green landscapes. In the wet Galicia, the "Green Galicia", landscapes have beautiful valleys, huge sky, freedom. I definitely decided that my Galicia might appear in the painting in all its splendor. This way, my finished work has "atmosphere". I only needed a few modifications because of the big format. ---------------- YouTube video. Song:"Canto de Andar" performed by Luar na lubre" ---------------------------------------------

Armando: Ante todo, vuelvo a insistirte, ésto tiene "duende" no tiene nada en común con la Ilustrasción. Es un fragmento muralístico.De gran calidad.... Por siempre. José

Armando my hand hurts just admiring your colored pencil art...I can not do it, it's too painful for me...all these images would make great book illustrations.

Bello, Bello. Tus obras, aún las serias historias son tan simpáticas Armando. Me da alegría esta obra por tus árboles cadenciosos, los campos tan coquetos, los cielos tan cantarines.

This is beautiful Armando, it definitly shows your unique and wonderful style. Using coloured pencils is hard work especially when you do it large scale, and it's time that this was recognised more by the artist fraternity, who generally frown on them as being childish. I hope your hand is ok, I can feel mine ache in sympathy :D

thea walstra 02 Sep 2006

A wonderful and very interesting piece of art Armando. I love that feel of depth. This way your pelgrims are really travelling to that cute and beautiful church. Great colors and style too.

Artist Reply: It's my mistake, dear Thea. That little construction is a "hórreo" (granary), the place where farmers saved their food: cereal, fruit... etc. The granary are made of stone and have apertures for ventilation. This way, food were fresh and in a dry atmosphere. And mice and birds cannot go in:-))) It's a kind of antique construction, still in use in the rural areas.
Artist Reply: Forgot to tell, the granary always has crosses. In a very religious and poor community, this crosses protected the harvest.
