Summer Garden Purple Beauties

During this past summer on vacation, I went to a favorite place to take photos. In the beautiful town of Frederick, Md. there is a well preserved Colonial Manor home. Rose Hill Manor is preserved as a living museum. I used to live nearby, and took groups of Girl Scouts there for special Camps in which they learned about their local history. This place will host how to dip candles, make soap, card and spin wool, they made their own little bonnet hats, they made aprons. They helped to peel, wash, chop, and cook a stew. They made tea, and other foods to eat. They played traditional games and sang songs. They explored the stately and well mantained rose, herbal, floral, and vegetable gardens. They got to tour the manor home and all the buildings and all had a blast. I fell in love with this place and it's wonderful beauty and history. I will be posting a special group of photos and art to share with you and hope you find it as wonderful as I did. I plan to return again to take proper photos of the inside of the manor. I was short on time this past trip, due to lots of summer storms. I managed to have the gardens to myself as the humidity was so high, others left, knowing the storms would be coming. I got lucky, and the held off until I wore out from the heat and humidity. These purple cone beauties are in the cone flower family, and are not only beautiful, but herbal. THe gardens are organic, so, at the time under atack by june beetles. When I do my paintings, I will not be painting the damage done to some of the flowers they tend to love to devore.

Wow! This is a wonderful capture. You know, I tend to enjoy photographs more than paintings ususally when it is of the same subject.... but ths time I really love what you have done with this scene in your painting. You have taken the best parts and embellished them to make them even more beautiful. After seeing the photo I realize how amazing that painting really was.

Artist Reply: Thanks so much! I love taking photos for how they come out, but then study them to create what I want to do. This photo was one angle of the one I psted up today of the painting I did based from another angle of the same area of flowers and the best bits I liked. I hated the holes the beetles had made, so left that out. Do love the beauty of those beetles colors.

Great capture Terry! And thanks for the lovely description, brought back many fond memories of my childhood, and visiting places just like this with my family and on girl scout trips as well! Thank you for the trip down memory lane!

Artist Reply: Yo're very welcomed Laurie! I worked with Girl Scouts for 16 years from Leader to trainner, and planning encampments and special events. Nice to know you enjoyed your scouting years. I missed out as a child, but made up with it with my daughters and even after they grew up. Scouting builds independent and leardership skills, such self esteem! P.S. Know about every silly song you can think of. LOL!

Beautiful work!! I love the bee siting on top!!

Artist Reply: Thank you Debbie! There wee lots of hapy working bees that day. I got some good close ups I'll be posting. Bubmble bees are usually less agressive so I can get close to them if I go slow. Were I live, got to watch out, as most of the bees have a mix of those Africanized Bees in there hives. SO, I don't go near them.

Artist Reply: Thank you Nelly! I'm glad you had some fond memories! I have some of mine own working with my Dad and family in our garden growing up. I love gardening, and will be planning a huge one when I move.
