Spring Tulip Blossoms

The beauty of Spring is always a joy for me to see. I love to drive around and spot blossoms. My father loved such drives and I've many fond memories of going on Spring drives with him. Although he's passed, I feel him with me still, and know he's enjoying the blossoms as well. This is a digitally painted work that I used an electronic drawing tablet. I used a Wacom tablet with wireless pen stylus ( not a computer mouse). I used Corel's Painter X software which allows me to select the art medium, brush sizes, colors, etc. as I draw, paint, etc. I still have to do all the work, I use photos at times for reference only. This is not a photo or a manipulation. If you look at the close up you can see the brush strokes and where I blended colors in the palette. I love the way I can create textures like with real brushes. I hope you enjoy the many beauties of Spring.

That is so life-like. I really could see this as a photograph. Amazing work!!

Artist Reply: Thanks! It made a great photo, bu the flowers were turning brown. I decided the angle and framing would work as a painting-without browning blossoms.

Warren Ballard 03 Apr 2008

Really nice!

Artist Reply: Thank you Warren so much! I'm working on a number of Spring beauties. I'm trying to sqeeze in some photo trips to get photo stock for reference for paintings. Often I find flowers that are browning or torn from wind or insect damage and will still take the photos. I can paint them without such flaws and envision as they would be in their glory. This was one such case. The flowers were browning and past their prime. Still, the camera angle I used was just what I wanted so I took the photos anyway. I love the way this painting came out.
